Support Groups

Liver Program

On the last Thursday of every month there is a scheduled liver support group meeting. Patients currently on the active waiting list for a liver transplant, and those transplanted are welcome to attend.

The meetings are co-facilitated by Transplant Psychologist, John Soos, PhD and the Transplant Social Worker, Polly Cooper, MSW. The focus of the meetings alternate. One session per month is an open-ended support meeting where people discuss whatever is on their minds with the aim that such disclosure is helpful in meeting the challenges of transplantation. Every second meeting is more structured in nature, where various transplant professionals are invited to present work in their areas of expertise.

The meetings take place at BC Transplant's office:
555 West 12th Avenue, West Tower, 3rd Floor Vancouver, BC

There is currently no support group meeting scheduled for 2010.

For more information please contact BC Transplant at 604-877-2240.

Lung Program

Meetings are held bimonthly at BC Transplant's office, alternating on a Tuesday one month (1-2:30 pm) and a Wednesday the next (10:30-noon). No meetings are scheduled during the summer months.

All patients (and their support people) referred to the lung program are invited to attend.

The purpose of the group is to provide patients and support people with emotional support, information and an opportunity to discuss their feelings and concerns about transplantation. The group is well attended by patients and great benefit is derived by those attending who share with the group their thoughts and experiences as they travel the transplant journey. Adjusting to life with a transplant can be eased by having the opportunity to learn from each other. Discussions enable greater understanding and acceptance, which reduces anxiety and helps patients and families cope with the uncertainties that come with transplant surgery.
