In B.C., physicians can bill the Medical Services Plan (MSP) for medical services provided to uninsured patients for the purposes of organ donation:
- Physicians can bill MSP for services such as pre-donation assessments, tests for organ viability, and any other medical procedures related to the donation.
- MSP has established a generic donor PHN which can be used to bill for organ donation services from the time of consent for organ donation OR from when the patient passes (whichever comes sooner), if:
- The donor is verified by BC Transplant;
- The donor is a non-resident (living or deceased) who is not eligible for health coverage in B.C. or elsewhere in Canada; and
- The medical service is provided by a physician licensed in B.C.
- If all of the above conditions are met, MSP claims may be submitted under the generic donor PHN. Contact info@bct.phsa.ca for the PHN.
- Any questions for clarification on how to submit the claim should be directed to MSP.
